Matt Sughrue

About Matt Sughrue

Once burned out on the game of golf, a change of vocations helped Sughrue gain some much-needed perspective and clarity of purpose. He left the insurance business, went back to graduate school and became a mental health clinician. Learning to “love the process of improvement,” success in golf followed, as his career was reborn as a senior – where he’s found great success both in Virginia and at the USGA level. He advanced to the 2016 U.S. Senior Amateur final, and he continues to chase success to this day.

Crowning Moment…

Sughrue won the 2020 Senior Open of Virginia soon after successful rehab from two torn elbow tendons. At the time, he said, “It might be the pinnacle of my golf career, in terms of victories. This is a storied championship. Some great players have won this thing.”
